As you may know, I’m a huge fan of reading with your kids. So…here are some Halloween favorites from our house to yours! Enjoy.
Brunhilda wears her ugliest dress every day, brushes her teeth with candy, and enjoys making it rain on everyone’s parade (literally) until one day, everything changes! The illustrations in this book are flat out phenomenal. It’s the little things (like Brunhilda’s red striped stockings!) that make me smile. My son has loved this book forever. It’s not only a great story for Halloween; it’s a great story anytime. Don’t miss this gem by Shawna J.C. Tenney.
Pumpkin Moonshine is a childhood favorite that has now captured the hearts of three generations in my family. It’s a sweet, wee story about a runaway pumpkin and a little girl named Sylvie Ann. Tasha Tudor was a prolific and much beloved illustrator of enchanting, gentle, whimsical books for children.
If you love the Little Blue Truck books (and I hope you do!) this installment does not disappoint. Every charming thing you’ve come to expect from Jill McElmurry and Alice Schertle (and Little Blue Truck’s cast of animal friends!) is piled into this luminous little book.
A witch just wants to make pumpkin pie for Halloween night, but her pumpkin is too big to get out of the garden! She gets help from a creepy gaggle of friends including Mummy, Dracula, and a vampire bat just in time to save Halloween. An old favorite.
Here’s a new favorite! This short recounting of why skeletons are definitely not spooky provides some rib-tickling fun, some basic bone facts, and some semi-adorable skeleton characters. BOO!
Happy Halloween and happy reading!
With love,
Kimberly
P.S. I have a surprise for you early next week. I’m starting something new!
